Game Errors due to lag

I upgraded from 98 to XP and have been experiencing probs with all my games. Mainly fps's like Medal of Honor. Periodically the character movement on the game controlled by the mouse will freeze for a few seconds but the game will continue like normal, also during this few sec freeze, the game will change weapons (assigned to middle scroll mouse button). I am familiar with games lagging but this is not a lag issue (I think!) as the game continues to run fine. I have a P3 800, 256Mb Ram, TNT2 Ultra AGP. The only thing that I think may be a prob is the HPT drivers for my ABIT ata 66 controller.

This is just normal. It seems to do it with every game I play, FPS or not but as I said, the game does not lag, just the controls e.g. the character will suddenly look in a random direction and be frozen there for about 2 secs, even though I can still make him walk. During this 2secs it also changes my weapons e.g. mouse scroll up or down. Its very weird.
