Hi,
I am currently running Win XP upgrade on my PC form Win ME. My hard drive has loads of extra files on it I assume from Win ME as well as all of the bloat from the PC manufacturer.
What I was thinking of doing is to format the hard drive and get rid of everything, and then get the full version of Win XP and load it.
Two questions: How do I full format the hard drive to wipe it clean, and once done is it as simple as inserting the disk for XP and letting it do its thing?

Let xp format the drive during install. You must chose few things: partition, format fat32 or ntfs, keyboard language, user name etc.

Pop in your XP cd and boot your computer. after it boots from cd you can choose to format your drive and install.
I reccommend formatting as NTFS, it's a much more stable file system

Even an "Upgrade XP" CD can do a complete fresh install by itself. During the setup of XP, it will ask you to insert a legal CD of any windows operating system so it can extract the install code for that system to verify you've owned a previous windows system. I would use NTFS format.

don't forget to change your boot order in bios first or it won't boot from XP cd
