I used the Full System Restore CD that came with my Emachine. There are two options for Full System Restore. 1. Full System Restore (destructive) and 2. Full System Restore (with Backup) I did the Full System Restore (with Backup). Now I want to restore all my pics and docs. I see the "c:\My Backup" directory but I don’t know how to restore the files. Please help if you can. Thanks!

Just CLICK ME to view the official eMachine instructions with pictures.

P.S. I wonder if the reply via PM as noted in the above post will be the same as what I suggested.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I’m not in front of my home computer at the moment. I’ll do my best to tell you from memory the relevant details to what happened when I ran the Backup Utility Wizard. Using the Backup Utility Wizard I selected “Restore files and Settings”. From the “What to Restore” window I selected the “C:\My Backup” directory. This is the directory that was created after I ran the “System Restore” CD that came with my Emachine. Inside the C:\My Backup directory I saw a number of folders (sub directories). One of the folders contained a “My Documents” folder. Inside the C:\My Backup\All Users\Documents and Settings/“My documents” I saw the folders that should have contained all my saved personal documents and pictures. However when I clicked on each of those folders to view the individual files there were none. Zero, nada and zip. No files. I checked the folder properties and yes in fact they were in fact empty.

It appears to me that the Restore CD copied my old OS and only the directories/sub directories of My Documents. No MS Word or XLS files, no JPEGs, nothing.

Now I’m really getting worried. What do you think?

Hi XpUser. I hope you remember me. You helped me with a problem I was having with Full System Restore.

http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...

I have tried everything I could think of to get my data back. I’m just not quite ready to give up yet. I really don’t want to loose all my family pics. I used a freeware recovery tool I downloaded from the internet. I was able to restore a few pictures and documents but only a small fraction. I’m ready to hire a professional to help me but there are so many out there I worried I will not find someone good. Can you recommend someone who might be able to help restore my files?

Thanks!

Bob

You are looking in the wrong place. Your pictures under my documents should not be in All Users but under your profile name.
