Is there a registry tweak that will allow the full path of a document to show in the title bar? For all Word, publisher, excel, powerpoint etc. files as well as other non office programs.
I work at a school where students have to save items to a network drive. Not all programs are set to default save to the network drive and so there are many times that the students accidentally save to the wrong spot. Then when they need a document it is not there. If after the save they could see the full path, along with the document name (including the network drive letter) in the title bar that would be an easy way for them to KNOW that they saved in the correct spot.
I know this is possible with a macro in many of the office programs. I'm not sure if our distric security is set to allow macros to run, and I'd like to see the full path for all programs and not just the Office programs. Is there any way to accomplish this?
Thanks so much.

Are you talking about the folder options, view tab, Display the full path in title bar?
Open my computer and then go tools folder options.

why not just modify the office settings to save to specific locations and only allow the users to save in certain directories? It would seem to make more sense on a public setup.

Response1: The Folders options only puts the full path on the title bar for the folders not on the title bar for the actual files. Which is nice, but not quite enough.
Response2: They already do have it set up that way, basically. They have security set up so that they cannot save to the C: drive for example, though there are glitches that allow that to happen. They also have it set up that when the kids open up My computer they only see "their" network drive. But.. it is not a perfect system, too hard to go into detail. The best solution I can see would be to show the full path on the title bar of their saved document files. Then after they save, they can do a quick glance on the title bar to make sure it's in the right place.
Thanks for your responses.

If they cannot remember whdere they save it to now, why would you think they would remember it when they see the path? In a nutshell, you will ind that regardless of what you setup, users will be users and forget things like this regardless of the system in place.

It's not a matter of forgetting where it is, its a matter of accidentally not selecting the correct drive. We are talking elementary students(as well as all grades). They know where it has to be saved, but they are young and make mistakes. If we could see their path in the title bar we could at a glance make sure that it is saved where it should be.
