Hi all..

I just upgraded to a Quad Core With 4 gig of Ram.
Windows XP & Vista only seems to recognise 3.5 gig.

Is the extra memory wasted?
Why does windows not show it?

Thanks to all who reply

Microshaft implemented a 4gb limit with XP and crapista OS's They blame it on the fact that the OS is only 32bit even though the hardware is 36bit.

In truth MS doesnt want to re-engineer their memory management scheme and wants everyone to switch to 64bit vista(which still uses 36 hardware). The problem down the road is that the hardware only address memory in 36bit so the limit is 64gb's IE. just another reason the x86-x64-em64t platforms are not true 64bit systems.

I'm sure someone somewhere is working on a workaround for xp, but I would not expect anything to solidify.
