Hello,

I have a tough one for you all. I have just bought a new case with 2 USB ports on the front. I have plugged in all of the cables as per the instructions of my motherboard, and updated all of the USB drivers, but when I plug in my USB QuickDrive it doesn't recognize what it is. The computer does recognize that it is there, but cannot determine what it is. Ok, maybe I plugged something in wrong, but when I plug any of my other USB devices (Mouse, Printer, IR Reciever) all work perfectly without problem. Then I thought, maybe its a problem with the QuickDrive, but when I plug it into the USB ports on the back of my computer it works perfectly without any problems. I can't determine why the computer can recognize other devices on the front ports, but not the QuickDrive or why it will work on the back but not the front. If any of you have a solution to this please let me know as reaching behind my computer to plug this thing in is becoming a huge pain in the butt. Thanks.

It sounds like a power supply problem. Hopefully, you have the power cables incorrectly installed to the usb ports. The Quickdrive probably needs more power than the other devices, and that is why it does not work. If they are properly configured, then perhaps the motherboard cannot supply enough power to the front ports.

As a side note:

Not all USB ports are powered. See if the MoBo manual gives any information.

All I would add to what KTTD says is that some USB ports seem to be less powered than others. I have some things -- like my scanner -- that work fine in one port but not another, whereas everything else works in that port. This is also backed up by somethng I read somewhere, but who knows where.
