Fresh XP install and hdd problem

April 27, 2011 at 09:33:18
Specs: Windows XP
Do i have faulty hdd? I'm trying to install fresh copy of xp on my old laptop. I've been installing xp hundreds of times so i thought that maybe i just got some bad habits and i found guide how to do it -> but for some unknown reason installer won't letting me past the point 5 from the link. Each time i try to create new partition installer reverting me back to screen where u see unpartitioned space. Should i blame hdd that i bought used from ebay(40GB Hitachi IDE)? I'm sure that it's not cd fault because i've tried 3 different cd with XP and with all of them i had the same problem. Or maybe i should connect jumpers on hdd? Now i don't have any jumpers connected witch indicates that hdd is "device 0"?

Don't you have to use another program to create partitions? The XP install CD allows you to choose & format current partitions but I don't remember being able to repartition the HD with it.

It should get you to the device since you said you can see unpartitioned space. Is it the correct device?

Get a live cd and partition it but xp has all the tools you need or should need.

I wouldn't trust anything from ebay.

Try pressing enter to install xp on existing partition.
