Frequent loss of internet connection

June 18, 2009 at 14:06:20
Specs: Windows XP
I frequently loose internet connecting while on the web. My ISP is comcast cable. I have contacted them and they gave me a process to use by disconnecting the power cords to the modem and the router, then reconnecting each 60 seconds apart, then restarting the laptop. This usually works, but the problem is that sometimes I end up doing this all day long at least once every hour if not more! I have a D-link router (DI-524) and a motorola modem. I think the modem came with the bundled package when I purchased the laptop. What can I do to stop this frequent internet connect loss? It's driving me crazy, not to mention I can't get anything done.

Thanks for your help.

You shouldn't have to do that. If the connection breaks down straight from the cable-modem to the PC (without using the wireless router) Comcast should come out and check the incoming connection. If it is OK, then you have some issue with the wireless router (obviously)...
