Frequent loss of internet connection

I frequently loose internet connecting while on the web. My ISP is comcast cable. I have contacted them and they gave me a process to use by disconnecting the power cords to the modem and the router, then reconnecting each 60 seconds apart, then restarting the laptop. This usually works, but the problem is that sometimes I end up doing this all day long at least once every hour if not more! I have a D-link router (DI-524) and a motorola modem. I think the modem came with the bundled package when I purchased the laptop. What can I do to stop this frequent internet connect loss? It's driving me crazy, not to mention I can't get anything done.
