I recently have switched to XP, now I download a lot via web browser and BitTorrent, and I stay on IM services 24/7, but since I have upgraded it seems that I get frequently disconnected and then re-connected?, and even with auto-reconnect enabled with all of my programs stuff, I still cannot reconnect without manually connecting with each program, and it happens every few hours, its not my DSL as I am directly connected to the router + modem, and my Windows 2000 system stays on 24/7 with no problems, what could be the problem causing this? this is my main system and it needs to stay online.

you may have Idle Disconnect set to on. Go to Control Panel-> Internet Options-> Connections (tab)-> click your connection-> click "settings" on the right-> untick "Disconnect if idle for".
Sorry if this doesn't apply to DSL, I'm on ISDN at the moment.
Hope I helped!
