I recently had installed Win xp pro upgrade on my computer that had win 98 and worked well, except for sound and modem driver i had to update. The problem is that yesterday i decide to format c drive and installed first win 98se and then did the upgrade, but know the computer sundenly froze for no apparent reason while working in Word with Win xp. So i checked the error history on the computer and it said this:

ACPI AMLI: la BIOS ACPI está intentando leer desde una dirección de puerto E/S (entrada/salida) no válida (0x71), que se encuentra en el intervalo de dirección protegido 0x70 - 0x71. Esto puede llevar a una inestabilidad del sistema.

ACPI AMLI: the BIOS ACPI is trying to read from a port E/S (inicials for entrance and exit in spanish) location not valid (0x71), that is found in a protected interval location 0x70 - 0x71. This can cause a system inestability.

I do not know if the problem is being caused by a limited power supply (i have a 250W supply) but I recently bought a internal burner and installed it, but i was short of power connector and an expert told me to get a splitter and to connect two devices from one power connector, the following is the way i have it right know;

IDE 1
Master - hard drive
Slave - zip 250

IDE 2
Master - cdrom
Slave - burner

Power Supply Connectors

connector 1: hard drive
connector 2: cdrom then to floppy
connector 3: splitter then to burner & zip 250

You should be able to reformat the drive, then install XP only. You don't need to install 98 first, even with the upgrade version so long as you have the 98 CD. XP will ask you to put the 98 CD in to confirm that your a registered user but that's all.
