Hey everyone.
I have a custom-made PC with an ECS
K7VZM motherboard, which contains a
VIA 100 MHz Chipset, an AMD Duron M2
1.2 GHz processor semi-overclocked
0.5V, 2 hard drives (one 6.4 and another
2.1), Windows XP Pro, 2 CD-ROM drives,
a floppy drive, a 8 MB PCI Graphics card,
and a Integrated VIA AC'97 2.1 sound.Here's the problem; when I use Winamp3
either with or without a DSP program, and
I play songs for about 30 minutes or an
hour, the sound halts and the computer
freezes and doesn't come out of that
stage.I did a virus scan, and it detected no
viruses in my system.Windows 2000 had the same problem,
and Windows ME had a problem very
simliar (the problem would be that at any
time or circumstance, the computer
would freeze and then it would give me
the message (Drive C: cannot be read.
Some data files may be lost.).What exactly is the problem? Even when
the computer is not overclocked, it would
freeze (especially when I was using
Windows 2000). Is my hard drive going
bad or is my computer not so good?I remember when I was placing the
heatsink on top of the processor, I made
a stratch on the motherboard the size of a
period at the end of a sentence. I don't
know if this little piece of extra information
has anything to do with the problem at
hand, but I ignored that because the
motherboard worked anyway (and the
speed was recorded right). Also, every Windows system recognizes
the processor as an AMD Athlon
processor, not a Duron.I'm sorry for a long post, but any help will
be appreciated. Thanks in advance.HondaNSX12

It looks as though it is your processor.
If you go here and read the board features it says it supports a duron processor only up to 850 mhz but can support the Athalon up to 1.2.

That would explain your problems and also the video card looks less than adequate. If you bought the processor and they told you it would work, take it back and get the proper one.

I would try a reinstall of WinAmp, and of course, make sure you have all the latest DirectX and Soundcard Drivers installed.
Overclocking is long gone aint it?
