Subject: Freezing during clean install of XP OS: none..yet CPU/Ram: p4 1.5GHz/512 MB
|
Comment: Hi, i am really pissed off for about a month because my first-time built computer is acting up. I have a p4 1.5GHz with a 423 pin socket on a PcChips M920LR Mobo, 1 stick of 512 MB of PC-100 SDRAM, 60 GB 7200 RPM HD, Radeon 7500 64MB DDR memory, 52X Creative Labs CD-Rom, Creative Labs Live! Sound Card, and sony floppy.......Anyway, i have everything installed for the first time and everything booted up good. BUT, the problem started when I popped in my Windows XP Home CD and booted directly for the cd. The installation started and i formatted my HD to NTSF, then it started "Copying installation files for installation"(this is on DOS screen with blue background and yellow install bar not the preety XP Screen)..IT JUST STOPS AND THE COMPUTER LOCKS UP!!!! Everything stops, keyboard, installation bar, mouse, everything..! I checked my BIOS, its fine. I checked the heat, its fine. I tried it over and over again. But, everytime i done it, it just freezes during different percentages....!!!!! I tried different Window OS's but it does the same with 2000. I BE REALLY GRATEFUL IF SOMEONE WILL TELL ME WHAT I'll DO.....i really need this PC.

Reply: (edit)Try disconnecting the Soundblaster Sound card. It has been giving people a lot of trouble in XP.

Reply: (edit)If removing the sound card does not let you install, remove any other hardware not required, such as, a modem, LAN card, etc. since you did not tell us what else other than a floppy, cd ROM are present. If these other items are not present, this means that memory, or some hardware item is not compatible with the OS.
