This just started today. My computer was working fine before all this. All i did before the problem started was attempt to uninstall a program that required a restart to finish installation, before restarting the computer. Some error message came up during uninstallation so i aborted it. I realized my mistake and rebooted my computer. After logging in, my computer then proceeded to freeze at the "Loading your personal settings" screen.

I naturally hit F8 when rebooting and selected "Last good configuration," as this has helped me in the past. Nope, it didn't work. I then went into safe mode. I could log in, and as soon as the desktop came up, I got this message right away:

Limited Virtual Memory

Your system has no paging file, or the paging file is too small.

To fix this problem, go to system in Control Panel, click the advanced tab, and under performance, click custom size and then type an initial or maximum paging file.

I then proceeded to increase the initial paging file from 576 to 800 (as the max was most at its max). I reboot. Still freezes. I then go into safe mode again to set it back to the normal initial file level (576) knowing that despite the error message, that isn't the problem im having, (but its apparently a new one). I then reboot and try to log in normally, just for the heck of it. This is the strange part. When loading windows, a disk check pops up. I was confused because all the other times i hit the button to hard boot it, it never did this. I log in as usual (not in safe mode), and it gets to the desktop, still displaying the "Limited Virtual Memory" error. I'm happy cause i think its just a fluke and its over, but to make sure, i reboot to check for consistancy. To my disappointment, it once again doesn't work and freezes. Since then, ive tried going into other accounts but nothing works. Right now im typing from one of the random spells that it lets me log in, so please help if you can!

Thankyou

PS: i haven't tried system restore, because ive had problems wtih restore screwing up programs that weren't installed at the restore date. That is my last resort!

hockeywarrior, perhaps you need to take solace from the fact that you aren't alone. Others have had the same problem. Take a look at what Google has to offer @:

Your paging file should be set to at least 1.5 times the amount of ram that you have,,, In your case what I see Is that you have 768 mb of ram,, Your paging file should then be set to 1152 ,,, If you set your min. and max to the same,,,, Should be good to go...
