major freware programs that run well on xp?,

this last year i was suprise whit some, oppenoffice, some protective software, tugzip,free protools, media player classic, etc..

can u tell me more, that i maybe been missing..

whic that were more options in areas like sound and video editing, and an image editing aplication that could get close to photoshop.
