free program to repace WORD

Someone from this forum told me of a free program to use in place of word ( being that xp dosent have a word program )and I can't remember what it was called. I lost it while I was formatting my puter. Thanks to anyone who may know. Christine

I know of one called open office. They also have a program to replace excel. www.openoffice.org (i think)

Yeah , openoffice.org is an OFFICE replacement, so it replaces Powerpoint, exel and the rest. its not AS good as office, but for no money its great.
If you are willing to pay $75, get the new version of Star Office, it is EXACTLY like MS OFFICE and it not $500 like MS OFFICE. Plus, there are no compatability issues.

Abiword is free and good, and opens MS Word documents: AbiWord OpenOffice is nice too, but a very large download. I often use Atlantis Nova too, because it's easy and pleasant to work with: http://www.rssol.com/en/html/download/nova.htm

The one you're looking for in Windows is probably Word Pad.
