Can anyone help me find a very effective antivirus program that is free?
If you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL! Glad to have a chance to help you.

It's an open source project that's pretty damned good. I use it on my Linux mail server to catch the nasties before they get to the users, and I have it on one of my windows workstations as well.
It comes with an auto-updater called Freshclam.
God only knows what they were thinking when they named it.
