Hi, I am currently running WIN XP Pro on a FAT 32 file system but i want to format my HD and run a fresh installation with NTFS. I tried to format my HD in My Computer by right clicking on it but it wouldn't let me do it that way. I heard something about making a floppy "BOOT" disk and formatting in DOS? I'm a newbie when it comes to formatting and file systems so i dont know if i'm getting in over my head, but i really want to go thru with it. If anyone can point me in the right direction or help me out in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Bobby

Go into bios and change first boot device to cd, put your xp cd in the drive and restart computer, Just follow the directions on the cd. It will give you format options as well. Just put your xp cd in and try it without setting bios first and try it that way frist it may work, ive never done it that way before though.

Ok so i did the FAT32 to NTFS conversion with the cdrom and did the repair option. So now XP has reinstalled itself on the NTFS but all the same settings are on my HD as before. It didn't wipeout (format) my HD as i'd hoped. I think i'll leave it the way it is now but what if i wanted to format my drive now? I've heard that NTFS is a nightmare to format....

??

Thanks

Bobby

Find somone with a win 95 start up disk and run fdisk , then delete non-dos partition, Thats how you get rid of NTFS ....:)
