formatting second hard-drive

OS: windows xp pro
CPU/Ram: athlon2000xp, 256ram

Having problems formatting second hard-drive. Been into bios to look at booting order and found the following:
1st Floppy:1.44
2nd IDE-0 Excelsior Tech CT210
3rd IDE-0 Excelsior Tech CT210
4th Disabled

I have a cd rom drive (D) a cd writer drive (E), a main hard-drive (C) and the new hard-drive. Is this running order correct. If not what should it be. I have drive C set to master and the new one to slave.

boot order:
first one should be master, 2nd and 3rd can be swapped
#1 master, the one with operating system
#2 floppy
#3 cd

So should i have 4 drives enabled, ie, should drive four really be disabled. Also, how come ide 1 and ide 2 are both shown as ide o.

You only have two ide ports
ide 0
ide 1

each ide port can support two ide devices.

Guys don't confuse boot order with bios drive information.

Your bios boot order is perfectly fine. You could list #4 for a cdrom but who cares?

It would appear your bios is seeing the drives correctly. It is correct that you have two drives and they are the same type?

Before you can format you have to partition the drive. Do so. Then format it.

What specificly are you having a problem with???
