Use the "Disk Management" under the "Computer Managment" MMC

This is in admin tools under the contol panel. If you can not find this click start / run and enter

You will be able to manage your hard drive(s) from here.

compmgmt.msc

I have my hard disk partitioned into two drives, C:/ and G:/. My C:/ drive is NTSF and it won't let me format the hard disk or change it back to FAT32. Can you help me change it back to FAT32 or tell me away that i can format the disk. thanks

FORMATTING

While running your current version of XP , insert the XP CD in the drive. When the
setup menu appears, select "New Installation" (clean install) from the pull-down menu.
Also, select
"Advanced" and place checkmarks in the two boxes.

2. Next, your computer will start copying files and then reboot. At this point, select
the same drive/partition that Windows XP is currently installed on. Select the
option to "format" this partition using either FAT32 or NTFS.

3. After the drive/partition is formatted, XP will begin the setup process and install
"clean".

4. After registering and activating XP, be sure to run a "Defrag".

Note: It is important to visit the web site of the manufacturer of your computer to
obtain any special XP drivers.

Subject: formatting hard drive in XP

I tried to format my HD as peter said above twice. When I get to the part where I select the drive Wins XP is installed on, I do not have a "format" option. I get an option to delete the partition, which it wont do because it has the Hewlett Packard install on (their software) (forget exact wording) then there is an option to install, which I can't do because the OS is already on, or the option to exit setup.

Is there any other way to format this HD? Until Wins XP, I've never had problems with formatting and reinstalling my OS etc.
