What exactly is your aim? Do you want to erase your only harddisk and do a clean install of windows XP or do you want to partition extra space on that one harddisk or dor you want to install a second harddisk and partition that?

Install a brand new hard drive that has never been formatted and set up one partition.

Install the drive, boot up your machine using the XP CD - the setup program will create & format the partition for you.
