I formatted my drive and reinstalled XP Pro. Now I have no access to the internet because I have no ipconfig. How can I create files to access internet?

It is not driver for the modem/router that you need as no such things exist.

If ipconfig shows nothing you will need driver for your Network Interface Card. If you go into Device Manager and look for any yellow question marks you will probably see one for Network Adaptors. You need a driver for this.

If the NIC is built into the motherboard you will get them from the motherboard manufactures web site. If it is a plug in card you will get them from that manufactures web site.

bud, does Device Manager show the Network Card? If not, you'll need to go to Dell's site, enter the Service Tag, and download and install the drivers for the card.

Jennifer,

I am not located by the laptop. I feel certain the card will show up.

OK the card shows up. You then have to install tcp/ip. Then a ipconfig will work.
