Formatted drive, no space left?

I just formatted my drive (Win XP), and 6 out of my 9 GB of hard drive space is being used - how is this possible if I formatted? Could I have accidentally partitioned? How can I clean everything and start from scratch? I don't need anything currently on there...

Try running chk/scan disk it's possible the free space is being reported wrongly
or perhaps you didn't format properly. did you boot from a floppy disk and use format c: or did you format from within winxp setup?

I booted from a CD...I should be booting from a startup disk and then format c:?

I believe that what Mr. Bojanges means is that you should boot from a DOS boot disk and then use it format the hard disk. Then run FDISK to partition the disk and you should then be able to install XP without further difficulties.
