Comment:

I just formatted my drive (Win XP), and 6 out of my 9 GB of hard drive space is being used - how is this possible if I formatted? Could I have accidentally partitioned? How can I clean everything and start from scratch? I don't need anything currently on there...

Thanks in advance.

Try running chk/scan disk it's possible the free space is being reported wrongly

or perhaps you didn't format properly. did you boot from a floppy disk and use format c: or did you format from within winxp setup?

Everything you know is wrong

I believe that what Mr. Bojanges means is
that you should boot from a DOS boot disk
and then use it format the hard disk. Then
run FDISK to partition the disk and you
should then be able to install XP without
further difficulties.
