I am positive i want to format and delete everything on my p.c and reinstall windows. How can i format my 80gb hard drive with two partitions (c and d) and have only one partition? What do i need and how do i do it?

Yes, when the Windows Setup prompts you, delete all partitions. You must use the up/down arrow keys to select each partition and press D (followed by L usually, to confirm).

Once you've removed all partitions, you can just instruct setup to install Windows XP in the unpartitioned space or create a new 80 GB partition and tell it to use this.

It's probably best to choose "NTFS (Quick)" because of the improved reliability and security of this filesystem over FAT32.

If you want to do it manually:

Get a bootdisk here.
Once you have loaded DOS, type this in the command prompt...

format c: /s /c /v:(whatever name you like to append)

/s - optional; copies system files to the HD.

/c - optional; has something to do with bad sectors.

/v: - optional; is an option to already append a desired name for the partition making the process of formatting faster.

You know, I used Acronis Disk Director Suite to manage partitions on my HDD - create, delete, resize. I didn’t have any problem. I think that it’s the easiest way to do what you want. You can create, delete and format partitions of any type, in windows (also I saved all date). After that you might reinstall windows. http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/
