formating 40GHD with XP on it

i want to format my drive so i can install windows 98 but when doing it it says i got to get rid of NTFS..what steps do i follow to format the drive with XP on it.

Boot from the 98 floppy, at the A: prompt type fdisk, choose to delete the partitions, the NTFS is considered a non-DOS partition. After all partitions are deleted, you can then create partitions (don't forget to make the primary partition active). Then reboot again and format the new partition, then install 98.
