Had windows me pre installed . Did format and installed windows xp (booted with xp cd rom)after change of boot order in bios.everything went well for a while then delated some system files by mistake so i did another complete install each time creating one partition.as i have one 60gb hdd and i wanted it left the same.but now someone is telling me you dont have to create partitions every time you install your system.they say if you just format your 60gb hdd will still remain the same ..
is this true or not as im a little confused

You said that you deleted some system files by mistake. You can replace them without reinstalling XP. Here is how:
Insert the original XP Disk
Start
RUN
Type sfc /scannow
OK
Now all dammaged or missing system files will be replaced. It takes several minutes.
Sorry, don't have an answer to your partitioning question.
