what's the best way to format my HDD on windows xp? I installed windows XP on my brand new comp (no previous OS). Can't remember but I think I set it to NTFS. I need to wipe the HDD clean, set it to FAT32 b'cos I want to install Win Me. Could anyone giev me a detailed step by step method to deal with this problem? FYI, my PC knowledge can be considered as intermediate so be quite specific with your instructions. I also need to know what boot and startup disks I need.

type this into explorer address bar when connected mskb q255867
use 98 or me boot disk to run fdisk
1 enable large disk support
2 delete primary partition
3 delete primary non dos partition
4 create largest primary dos partition
6 dependent on size of hard drive
make 5 or 6 8 to 10 gig extended dos partitions(at least make 1 primary and 2 extended)
7 format c:
8install me to c drive
9 install xp to d drive(use 1 of the extended partitions for data storage)
that way if you need to reload an op system you dont have to lose your data gl hth
