Hi,

I'm going to completely reformat my hard-drive and re-install windows in a few days, I have done this before on older systems and am familiar with the process, however I have still looked into a great guide from http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp .

My question is, should I leave devices such as my external adsl modem turned on during the installation and maybe let XP detect it?? Or should I leave it turned off and unplugged, and let windows detect and install it once the whole process is completed?

Just wondering.
Thanks very much for all replies.

Keep the adsl modem disconnected till after you have Win XP with SP 2 installed.

Then install your firewall and antivirus apps.

Then you can plug your adsl modem cable back in...

On top of what Wombat said, besure to download your current updated versions of malware/spyware apps also so as to have them all installed prior to installing your adsl.

Wombat,
No problem and no explanations needed. I for one consider anti-virus/malware spyware apps all the same, as in 'one without the other is about useless' type of sameness but most people don't so just tried to clarify what you said. Hope I did't overstep :-)
