Solved Forgot my password to old Sony desktop with XP on it

Specs: XP, Pentium 4
I have a old Sony with XP on it. I can't remember the password to log on. While I don't care too much about the machine except maybe making it a server, there are some pictures and videos I'd like to get off. How can I bypass the login screen or force a password or the like?

Note that the password reset disk mentioned must have been created on the same computer by the same account whose password you wish to reset. None other will work.

Use the F8 boot menu and choose one of the safe mode options. When the login screen pops up it will also have the administrator account showing. Try logging on to that account. It usually won't be password protected. If it then boots OK go into User Accounts in control panel and delete the unknown password from the other account.

You can replace a new one, but if you want to get back the password, you can follow this guide: http://tinyurl.com/l33cl6g

If all you need is data, you can buy a USB to IDE/SATA adapter fairly cheap. Then just remove the drive and connect it to another system to copy the data from it.

To expand on post #5's idea, you might not even have to buy a housing. Since this is a desktop, if you have another desktop, you could just remove the drive and put it in the working computer. Just remember to boot to the other computer's main drive.

I was thinking of just pulling the drive and copying data off of it. They only thing is that it was my MCE machine. I was just thinking about using it as an extender through MCE in one of the spare bedrooms.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance. I'll let you know what happens
