If you forgot or lost your Administrator password, look HERE for an easy fix.

There is another simple way. There are SAM flies in the hard disk. You boot on your computer upto the MSDOS prompt using any of the boot disk of eithr win98,2000. then find the SAM file under C\Windows\repair and copy and paste it in the c:\windows\system32\config folder. there alredy exists a file and replace that file. then restart your pc and it would not ask for password. then go to control panel and then reactivate the user accounts.

If your file system is NTFS, go HERE to get NTFS Reader for your DOS Boot Disk.

Enjoy!

XpUser, thanks for the excerpted tip, but when I went to the site for the full text, they wanted a $9.95 sign-in fee.

Motor cooled down, heat went down, that's when I heard that reinstall sound

I haven't tried this but I guess its for ANY account. In addition, if you navigate to the directory

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\SAM

This is the SAM database - Deleteing this file will blank the Administrators password on the machine.

Which site? If you meant www.experts-exchange.com, just scroll down past the advertisements for the rest of the thread. I never have paid anything (shhh)

you might want to try this

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

It's free, it's been around for a while, you can reset ALL passwords for accounts found on WinNT 4 / Win2k Pro & Server and XP Pro and it's FREE! What more can you ask for? :-)

Hi Tezdread,

No problem. I checked out the other link and finds it's a little too complicated for the average users. I guess mine's so easy that even my grandchildren could do it :-)))
