Thanks for telling me about the prefetch folder. How do I clean the registry? This sounds more dangerous to do, yes? I am computer clambrain, so keep it simple please.

wolfee:
There are several reliable freeware registry utilities. I use RegSeeker. Besides doing a general or specific registry cleanup, it has some other handy features built into it.
After you download and install it, just click on clean the registry, then click OK. Give it a minute or two to scan. Don't be surprised if it comes up with several hundred old registry keys. If you haven't (or ever) cleaned your registry, that's normal. I've found RegSeeker's default settings to be more than adequate. Although I've never used the Exclusion feature, you may want to, if have any extremely sensitive programs on your computer which don't like having their registry keys touched.
Scroll down a few entries and you'll find Regseeker.
Finally, don't worry about what you delete--you can restore everything through Backup. To delete the old keys, simply click on Select All, then right-click your mouse anywhere in the middle of the listings.

PS: You may want to make a restore point in System Restore before you install RegSeeker. That way, if you don't like the utility, or are uncomfortable with it, you can put everything back the way it was.
