Fonts - default download/save file

Specs: Windows Vista
Somehow my computer got changed so now when I download a font, it gets saved in the Paint program and I cannot open it. Can you help?

Why not explain HOW your PC got changed.
Also, downloading a font is also confusing, can you please elaberate on that?

If I knew how the setting got changed, I would know how to change it back.

When I hit the download button from a website to download the font and hit save, it saves it not as a ttf or a zip file but in paint. How do I correct this?

by font I'm assuming you mean photo or picture?
