Slow computer but not deathly slow Is there such a thing as too many fonts installed on XP vs 2002 sp 3? I have a pentium 4 cpu 2.80 ghz 1.50 gb ram I have about 1000 fonts that I use in photoshop and a vectorizing software. I don't want to install and uninstall everytime I want to use it. I dont understand how font managers work so I have not tried that. My computer is running kind of slow (no virus or spyware) I clean out temp file, do a hard scan and dfrag often. My startup has little running so the only thing is too many fonts? or could I be running out of space on my hard drive. I have 111gb and only 20gb free. Most of it is software because my documents is not loaded too heavy. Thank You Linda

law828, SWAG, may not have a thing to do with it, but won't hurt to try. A common ailment is a file called 'index.dat'. It gets read every time and can take quite a while if it’s too bloated. It's like a log file and keeps a record of every site you visit on the web. Empty, it's 32K, but it can grow HUGE. It's a protected file and can't be deleted by normal methods. CCleaner (free @: http://www.ccleaner.com/) can get rid of it (not to worry, it gets rebuilt EMPTY on the next boot.). HTH. Ed in Texas.

Yes, too many fonts will slow your system down. Remember that each font is loaded into memory, 1000 fonts is a very significant amount. Font managers are a great thing to have if you need that many fonts. You can load only the fonts you need at the time, thus freeing up tons of memory and they are very easy to use. There are lots of free ones out there, just Google font managers and you will see many listings.
