here for the most part is what I posted last time

Basically the computer loads up and gets to the windows log in screen. As soon as the password is entered the computer starts to load, but then changes as if i had just choosen to shut down. Theres not even split second before goes from starting up to logging off. I've tried loading in safe mode but the same thing happens

the repair install gets you logged in but as son as you restart it is there again. the virus is a script that runs on start up( or a program) that just logs you off. my problem is I don't know what it is called or how to get rid of it

now I have gotten my system almost back in working order with out having to reformat ( I am still planning on doing this eventually)

The system will still reset itself after a certian amount of time. I am not sure if this is a set time the virus has put in, or just after so long a period of inactivity. My question, is there a setting in XP that telsl it to turn off after a certian amount of time idle?

for anyone who is intrested here is how I fixed the system to this point

I used the XP repain install off the CD (not the one off the main window the repair instal off the install XP section) once I had the repair install done I was able to enter my system. I used systemscan off of Nortons system works 2005 and found 558 errors in my windows registry. I am not sure if other system scanners put out by others would work or not, I just had nortons so I used it) after having nortons fix that the system still resets after beign idle for so long, but it starts up just fine

I am wondering anyone who has had these problems when didi they start. it started for me after I installed a game patch. I don't think this is a virus, I think it is a case of bad programing on some ones part that just caused massive system errors

Hi Jim

This may not help you, but it just solved a problem for me. I have a relatively new XP Pro Installation. Received a call from my wife that the password had expired, so I had her change it. No problem; but I use TweakUI (Windows Power tool). Never thought to change the automatic logon password.

It took a half hour to get to a logon screen, typed in new password and it worked fine. Couldnt' figure out what was wrong---then finally the light bulb went on and I changed password in TweakUI. Boots and Logon normally now.

Good Luck

Tom C.
