Hi,
I uninstalled Norton 2007 last night and am running AVG. I noticed two Symantec folders are still on the PC. When I go to delete the folders, access is denied. One folder is called Symantec and the other is Symantec Shared. The folder named Symantec is in C:\Programs and the Symantec Shared is in C:\Program Files\Common Files. IS there a way I can remove these folders?
Also, does the uninstall of Norton automatically delete it from the Registry or should I run a Registry cleaner?
Thanks!
Veets

i would edit the registry, open edit, find,
just keep typing nortons in the find until all of the entries appear, which will be one at a time of course. you'll be suprised how many times you'll need to run the find.

Use this.

And no, Norton leaves thousands of registry entries on the uninstall. It is a piece of crap. yes,use a reg. cleaner.

LOL!! Hi wombat. We have all grown to hate Norton haven't we.
Veets. If you want a good A/V look at NOD32. Best around.

Before everybody gets into their usual knee-jerk "knots in their shorts", you might calm down and consider that there might be a legitimate reason for what the OP described above.
For instance, what if the OP has some other Symantec product installed (like Ghost, etc., and a myriad others, not called "Norton")? Then some of the advice offered above is less-than-helpful. IMHO, it would have been wiser to ascertain this, or at the very least point out that LiveUpdate has it's own separate un-installer.
Veets -- navigate to those 2 folders, and note what files and sub-folders are there, then post a list of some of them here. Then you can get more appropriate advice.

I have no need to calm down justcuz (by whitevalley) the fix I posted is the best way of sorting Norton problems...

First off even symantic will tell you that they cannot remove all their own crap. At one time I had twenty-three (yes 23 )full pages of registry edits that one had to perform in order to get them out of your system... after the first time I determined that it was much easier to reformat and reinstall and never use any of their proprietary stuff again..
by the way...a search will not reveal all the files as they don't use their names on but about a quarter of them....the rest are alpha numeric installer code and will remain there till the next reformat/reinstallation or the computer dies!

Norton Removal tool does not restrict itself to Norton Ant-Virus alone... just sayin', and "we" still don't know if 'Veets' has other Symantec products installed. If "Access is Denied", then SOMEthing must be in use, and that's what the OP is asking about.
PS-The Microsoft Windows Installer Clean-Up Utility (mscuui.exe)is helpful in housekeeping unwanted *.msi files.
