Hi
I have arranged some folders date-wise so that i can know which are the recent and old ones. The problem is whenever i open any .doc or .mht file from any folder, the folder's date i.e "Date Modified" gets changed to present date even if i change nothing and just read the file. Can anybody tell me the cause and solution to this problem. I would certainly be grateful.

Learner, think the date stamp thingy's an automatic function. Perhaps there's a way to modify it, I just don't know of it.
What if you rename the folder to reflect the original date (script?) regardless what the date stamp says or put the original date in the folder document in order to keep things straight.

Can anybody tell me the cause and solution to this problem.
The solution is DO NOT OPEN IT. The date/time stamp of Any file you accessed will be updated. This is how computers work.

Thanks for the suggestion Ed.
XpUser, I think u should really learn xp now. There are different date/time stamps for files like "Date Modified", "Date Created" and "Date Accessed". So I am talking about "Date Modified". Anyways thanks for the reply.Learner

We have the same problem at one of our client. I think this could be "normal" behaviour in Word, but I'd still need to at least convince the client that there is nothing I can do about it.
I searched Microsoft's knowledge base to no avail. And deducting from the date of this problem reported on this page and from the fact that I was unable to find any question nor answer to the problem elsewhere, this behaviour could be pretty new. So It could be caused by some hotfix or such. Let's hope that Micro$oft finds the time to fix this problem.
I checked that for instance Excel doesn't do this, only Word. And the same behaviour occurs using net shares as well as local folders.
