Hi all
A collegue of mine is having a problem with his XP Pro computer. It works brilliantly fast under all circumstances, except for when he has more than one folder open at a time and tries dragging and dropping files from one folder to another, or else right-clicking to make a new folder.Doing any of these actions massively slows his computer, but upon doing CTRL-ALT-DELETE and checking processes, explorer.exe never exceeds around 15% when doing this, and is at 0% at rest.
Nortons is updated and a virus scan shows nothing, also ad-aware has come up clean.
Any ideas? Luckily this problem isn't affecting my computer, but I feel my collegue's pain!

Just out of interest, I had a slow explorer.exe last week and this was the solution for me:

However my collegue's symptoms are different and this solution doesn't work.

jet: see if this helps;

other folks have said this is caused by;
1. IOMEGA Hot Burn Pro program.
2. Eraser security software.
3. another tweak at:

4. Fupped Duck said: "A program that I had uninstalled was still the default program for creating new files of that type. On the right-click menu you have the option of making a "new" folder, shortcut, or file, and my computer was hanging there while it tried to find the (now missing) program to create the new file.
I went into Tweak UI , to the "New" tab, and unchecked everything except "text document" (the only type of file I ever use the "new" menu for). Everything zips along just fine now."
let us know what worked...
