I can't seem to get 1) Folder properties dialog when I right click a folder and hit properties to come up (please note the properties dialog appears when I right click an actual file... just not folders) 2) Sharing & Security dialog box to share a folder & 3) My Computer properties dialog box. This just recently started happening and the dialog box has been working before. I'm just at a loss as to what can be causing this. Any ideas?

See if this helps.

VooICPDoo, This is just a WAG but right click your Start button, choose "Properties" and under the "Start Menu" tab click the "Customize" button and under the "Advanced" tab make sure that "Enable dragging and dropping" is checkmarked, click OK/Apply/OK. Like I said it's just a WAG.

Tried that and still nothing, I have found out however that I can get to the properties dialog and folder sharing tab if I right click the disk drive from inside My Computer. All other folders, however, still have the same problem where the dialog does not appear.

No solution, I'm afraid, but I have exactly the same problem. Also, IIS/localhost seems to have stopped working (IE hangs when I try to access *.asp files in my "Inetpub/wwwroot" folder).
The only recent changes to my PC are routine XP SP2 upgrades and an upgrade to Norton Internet Security 2005. Could all these events be connected?

ColinW, all I can suggest is googling, wording can be changed, or doing an XP repair.

Boot off of a clean windows XP cd, choose Install ( Not > To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R ) at the first prompt.
It will then search for a previous copy of windows.
When it finds your copy, it will stop at the next prompt and ask if you want to do a repair. Hit R at this screen.
If it does'nt mention a repair > DO NOT continue.
It will then copy a lot of files and appear to be doing a reinstall ( But its not. All your programs and data are safe, all you will lose, are your windows updates )
This will allow you to add accounts to the system that will be administrator accounts, it will also fix most problems in XP.
You will have to reactivate after the repair, but dont worry it will reactivate cleanly. This should fix your problems.Repairing XP
