hi,

i need to set up permissions for a folder under XP whereby:

- users cannot see their contents (or tamper with them), BUT

- the program inside that folder can be run at startup, reading and writing data files inside that folder.

I have spend 5 hours trying different settings and permutations and can't get it to work. Any know how to do this?

thanks in advance,

serge

Do what I do with my children. They have a limited account, and their desktop features are completely disabled, even the right click and start menu.

They are only allowed to use programs and files that I manually place (in terms of shortcuts) in their desktop folder.

You could place a shortcut to the file on the desktop without allowing access to the entire folder.

You can do this by editing the registry, but it's easiest by using a third party program like XSETUP.

Don't bother editing the registry unless your very comfortable, just use xsetup as bill said. Otherwise you might regret deleting a couple keys...
