Anyone ever had a problem of a locked folder and couldnt open it because you didnt have permission even though you were Administrator, mines I had digital photos of from my high school days saved on Windows XP in a folder I labeled the folder pictures, I locked the folder, well really Windows Simple sharing locked all my folders from other users except me the Administrator. But one day my computer mest up and wouldnt boot right, so I ended up reinstalling XP, but i didnt want to format because I would loose those photos, so I just installed over the old installation. After that, I couldnt access my folder, permission was denied even though I was under Administrator with full rights, until I learned that since that folder was created under my previous installation it was under a different user group name, and I would need to take ownership of the folder to view its contents so here's what I did, right click the folder thats locked and go to properties, go to the security tab and down to advanced(oh wait a minute before you proceed any futher first if you are using WinXP you must first go to the my computer section, and click the tools menu and down to folder options, go to the view tab, and down at the Advanced settings and uncheck the Use Simple file sharing check box.) now back at the locked folder that wont allow access, you must take control even though you are an Administrator, go to the Advance area of the Sharings tab at properties and windows would come up Advanced Security Settings from there go to the owner's tab and below the field that says Change owner to there should be the names of the Adminstrator or what ever user name u have that have full rights, select that name and hit apply, and your name should appear under the Current owner of the item field. Hit ok and it should start transferring over to you, now if your name wasnt in the Change owner field go to the effective permissions tab, and where it says groups and user names go to change and a window should come up, with a list of known users of the computer to choose from. I hope this helps, it how I solved my problem, and it wakened me to finally backing up my important files before installing.

Chuck,
In plain english:

Use advanced security features instead of simple features and the administrator can take control of any damn account they want!
