Whenever I open a new folder it opens a new window. That's all well and good but when I try to navigate from that window to another folder (ex. a subfolder) within that explorer window it opens a new and seperate window for that folder. Then if I navigate to a new folder from that second folder it opens yet another.
This is extremely annoying especially when I'm trying to navigate my PC quiuckly. Doing a simple cut and paste sometimes yields 15 seperate windows. Many of them are the same folder.
Anyways I've checked around on my own as I'm pretty good with windows especially with troubleshooting and have also looked around on the internet but haven't found the solution.
Hopefuly one of you can crack this mystery.

In Windows Explorer,
click Tools in the Menu Bar,
click Folder Options,
then you will see it on the General tab to open folders in same window.

No, it's already set to same window and I have also tried restoring defaults using the button just below that and the problem is still persisting.

Do you check for, and remove, Spyware ??
Spyware info.from Microsoft
Virus and Spyware scans work better in Windows Safe-Mode.

I also have this issue. It is driving me batty.
I even tried to edit a registry key I found at another forum but no good. I was running an NVidia theme software which also messed with default folder Icon. I uninstalled this but alas, it has left me without a way to browse effectively.
I concur....
PLEASE help.

Good news...
In a google group I found a link to a site that has fix. At least it fixed my problem. Seemed to have repaired my folder options through vb script. As this can be dangerous, you check out link and decide for yourself if u want to risk it but it worked for me!
I found fix @ http://dougknox.com/
Go to Win XP fixes page....
Click on "Search/Command Prompt Opens When Double Clicking a Folder"Download vb script, save to desktop and run it.
Hope this helps you as it did me!!!
Cheers,
Hotchips.
