Good morning!

Please help! I'm not sure what I did, but for some reason the names of all of the folders that are found in another folder don't show up! When I click on them once I see the name, but as soon as I remove it the name disappears. What have I done?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but it's really freaking me out! Any help you can provide would be great. Thank you in advance!

MidnightBlue,
If you have the view set to show Thumbnails do the following:
Open the folder to view the thumbnails. Hold the Shift key down and click on the View button and select Details.
Remove your finger from the Shift key. You should now see the file names.
Hold the Shift key down and click on the View button and select Thumbnails.
You should now see the thumbnails with the file names under them.

Thank you both for your replies! I tried both options, but I am still unable to see the names under the folders unless I click on them :(

Is the View in the problem folder set to Thumbnails? If it is this should work.

When you open that folder first hold down the shift key this will restore the file names under thumbnails.

When you hold down the shift button when opening folders in thumbnails the names under the files disappear to allow more thumbnails to be viewed. So to reverse it to get the file names back reopen the folder while again holding down the shift key.

Hi Tufenuf,

Thank you again! I'm not sure if I'm just not doing it right, but the names still don't come out. I did as you said and the only change is that now I can't see the names even when I click on the folder. I followed your steps again, and the names came back, but once again I can only see them when I click on them. If I don't do anything, I just see the folders, without the names. Once I click on one, the name appears. I might not be explaining myself very well!

MidnightBlue, Open that problem folder, click on View and change it to Icons. Do you see the folder name(s) now?

Which View do you want to show for those folders?

Hello!

Unfortunately I do not see the names when I change the view types. At this point I wouldn't mind seeing the names in any view! :P But my preference is Thumbnail.

Thank you for your help!

MidnightBlue, This is a weird problem for sure. Go to Start>Control Panel and open Folder Options, under the View tab checkmark "Show hidden Files and folders", click Apply/OK.

Now go into the folder(s) that don't show the names and locate any Thumbs.db files, right click them and choose Delete. Restart your computer and see if the problem is still there. If it is try what I posted earlier and see if the names appear.

Thanks very much Tufenuf, I do not had any
Thumbs.db file, but following the idea I
found a desktop.ini file, I delete it and all
the folder names in Program Files folder
reappear, who and why makes this dekstop.ini
file will be an eternal mistery, thanks again

Sorry for the delay in my response! I tried your advice Tufenuf, but I didn't find any Thumbs.db files, or desktop.ini files in the problem folder. I really have no idea why the folder names are still not appearing. I've researched on other forums and they all advise me to use the "shift" key, just like you did, and it appears to work for other problems except mine! :P I tried hard to think of what I could have done, and the only thing that comes to mind is that I tried to change the folder picture under properties a few weeks ago, and the picture never changed. Could that have affected it?

Thanks again!
