Product: Dell Inspiron B120

i have a folder on an external hard drive with pictures all of a sudden the folder type was changed from "file folder" to just "file". what can i do to fix this without losing my data. thanks

What happens when you try to open the file? Check properties of the file to see the size.

when i try to open it. i get a message that says "windows cannot access the specific device, file or path. you may not have the appropriate permission to access the item." the folder was 32GB it now shows 17.8MB

Was the External drive used on a different computer? Look in Disk Management and see how the drive is configured there. Have you used proper removal technique with this drive (safe removal icon)?
