floppy disks fails (40)

Specs: Windows XP
my computer shuts down after turning it on...then floppy disks fail (40)... but before that happened when i have something to type the letter i pressed dont appear but a lot of bracket do appear many times.. so i think it was a virus.. am i right? what am i gonna do? help

If you suspect that you have a virus or some other spyware/malware, why would you want to question whether you are right or wrong. What is it that you are really after here? A pat on the back that you made a right guess?

Why ask this question?

Why not just run your anti virus program then if it doesn't clear it up tell us that you ran the cleaners and it is still happening, so we don't have to play 60 questions with you.

You waste your time and ours with this foolishness.
You suspect a virus, run the cleaners, if it clears up then you wouldn't have to bother us with this stuff and then wouldn't have to wait to see what happens after you run the cleaners

1. Floppy cable not connected properly
2. Bad floppy cable
3. Bad Floppy drive - I/O

oh sorry... ey, i ran the cleaners but still its happening..and its getting worst. character b is not working...but if going to press a character other that 'b' , a lot of b is coming out even if i pressed it just once...

... try another "cheap as chips" keyboard

If desktop.
Check bios and make sure floppy is 3.5 1.44
If so
Shut down
Unplug
open
check cables and power to A: drive
If secure then
disconnect a: drive
unplug key board

Plug computer back in and restart
post ???
Boot ???
Keyboard error...yes
floppy error ...no

shut down
plug keyboard in
restart
Post ..yes
boot.. yes
Same keyboard problems ???

Try a different keyboard...borrow one
Replace floppy drive
