Every time I try to copy something to a floppy or even just read one, it says it's not formatted. Does anyone else have this problem?

the reader in the floppy is either dirty or fritzed. there are cleaning kits for the floppy drive.

I have had the same problem, with a brand new shop machine we are using, HP unit, it told me the floppy was not formatted, I think this is because the floppy's are pre formatted out of the box, and not formatted NTFS. Which is what our shop machine is set as out of the box. This seems like it will be a problem, if we want to use a flopp in another older file system mach. or use an older mach. copied floppy in the new shop machine. This may become a real problem in general. I think it's all part of microsoft master plan to make you keep upgrading and paying through the nose. I can't wait till Linux is an easy install. Everyone just wants information, no hassle to get it is what it's about to me. F*** paying for it or even registering for it. I love win98SE easy & somewhat stable for FREE.

For the guy who thought floppies could use NTFS: NTFS is a hard drive system. Floppies use only FAT. Never have used anything else, never will. (obviously I'm talking about PC here, they use whatever they use for Macs)

This happens to me... I am using a laptop and dual booting. WinME works fine with the floppy. WinXP doesn't seem to sense when I've replaced the disk in the drive. I always have to "uninstall" the drivers for the floppy using device manager then letting XP recognize the floppy again also using device manager. I have to do this EVERYTIME I change the disk. Also happens to one of my desktop. Both are based on SIS chipsets.

Seems that when I finally get to read a floppy, after a reboot. Then all other floppies I read have the exact files on them.
Seems that WinXP is caching the floppy contents and then never refreshing it.
