floppy disk drive disappeared from my system

floppy disk drive icon is just disappeared from device manager and also from my computer folder which has list of drives and removable media.if i type A:\ in run command prompt it says it is unavailable plz suggest how to enable it

Is it listed in the bios?

Sounds like perhaps the drive died. You can test by putting in a boot diskette, setting bios to boot a: first, to see if it will read the floppy.

Check floppy disk drive cables. Might have come loose or detached.
