I noticed my screen on my laptop flickers sometimes and
it even gets black and I can not see anything. I have to
push on ( I do not know what they call it) small stick which
is sticking out on the right hand top corder on the base
part of the computer. It makes beeping noise when you
press and the screen comes on. But it is hard to keep the
screen on unless you find the certain position for it.
What could be wrong with it and how can I fix it?
Thanks.

I would say that you have a shorted wire or connection somewhere. I would find a reputable shop and let them repair it as it would be best as to not totally ruin it!

This might also be caused by corrosion in the switch mechanism for the LCD display. As advised above, this is a repair best left to a professional.

I believe that Toshiba model falls under a repair bulletin from the manufactuer. It is an inverter issue and they will repair for free or reimburse you if done at another shop.

Hi guys,
I just called Toshiba. They said the program for fixing my problem ended and they want me to pay $435.00 for fixing it. Such a rip off. I told them I will buy a new computer for that price befor I pay them.
So much fo Toshiba. Obviously since they had recall on this issue its their fault and they want me to pay money for it?
I can probably have it fixed for lot cheaper somewhere around my town.

I don't know your exact model number but if your fairly decent with working on things, you could buy the part online and install the part yourself. Also take a look at this for the inverter itself.

SysLock,
Thanks a lot. It looks like should not be a big deal. I am
pretty handy. Now is it inverter that I need to solve this
problem? Is it why my screen is flickering?

Thanks.

My comp is Satellite 1800/1805. P3
Now, I checked the price on converter and it is $90 but on
eBay I can get it for around $40. They describe the product
as it is for Satellite 1800 but do I need to know the exact
number of the part that I have to buy or they are all same for
satellite 1800?

Thanks.

The inverter is what supplies power to the backlight lamp and is a known issue on this model.

Due to varying screen sizes, make sure you get the right part. On the bottom of the notebook is a label, see what the model is listed there (ie. 1805-S273). You could also disassemble and remove the inverter and should be able to get the part number off the board itself but the model number on the label should be sufficient to find the exact part number online.
