Comment:
i want to fix my XP files but how? do i select full install in the setup or will that erase my hd?
Select the Upgrade Install. This will reinstall the OS over your old installation. YOu won't loose anything, but it is a good rule of thumb to back up your computer files anyway, so i would suggest you do this just to be safe.
Also, after you reinstall the OS you will have to reinstall of the Updates from microsoft.

first try start-run-type sfc /scannow. You will need the XP CD.
