In your opinion, what firewall do you like the best for XP. I have been having issues with XP randomly rebooting itself while I'm surfing the web....It would only take five to ten minutes then boom..reboot.........Now "knock on wood" I've been surfing for over an hour, with about 20 explorer pages opened, with zone alarm ]freebie], turned off ... so far so good...anybody else having these issues..what firewall do you like?? Thanx

I bought Norton Personal Firewall 2003 about a week ago and it has been great so
far. As to your problem, XP has a built in firewall, check your network connections in control panel to make sure that firewall is not on if you're running another firewall, [zone alarm] the two can conflict and cause grief. HTH

Beth, open Zone Alarm and go to programs. Make sure that Generic Host is allowed internet access. If you do not allow this your system will do what you describe. I do not allow any programs server status. Take care and all the best!

Beth.If you ever want an alternative to Zone Alarm check out Sygate.I have had the free versions of both firewalls. They both are good.I recommend Sygate!I have Windows xp home and never had any problems with this firewall. There are quite a few sites that have the free download available.wilders.org has reviews/downloads.A word of caution about un-installing ZA; after un-installing(use the un-install feature in ZA)a good idea is to clean the registry of all ZA traces. You can get free programs that are safe for registry cleaning at www.jv16.org.Hope this helps.JB

zone alarm gave me irq not less or equal errors and my system rebooted when i was on the internet(took months to find problem)
to check if its za look in event viewer for true vector errors by right click my computer, manage, event viewer, application

And you could also turn of automatically reboot on error by right click my computer, properties ,advanced, on the startup and recovery box click settings and then untick automatically restart
you will then get a blue screen with the exact error

ps i changed to sygate in the end

zone alarm is very dangerous, it reserves ports, which winxp needs, so conflicts appear and therefore winxp reboots itself, which can cause registry destruction, apart from the whole annoyances caused by the reboots. uninstall zone alarm and install sygate pro. it's perfect. never had any problems. while zone alarm nearly killed my computer
