With Sygate bought out by Norton and Zone Alarm having so many quirks, what other Firewalls do forum users recomend. I know I need more than just the Windows XP Firewall but not sure what else might make my system secure.

Thanks for any and all comments.

try COMODO firewall. since i read so many good reviews, i'm testing it for 2 weeks now on one of my systems and must say it's a very good solution, easy to use and it's not going wild on your system resources.

comodo is free, however it requires a registration.

Comodo or SP2's
Comodo Personal Firewall

Comodo has > Scan for known applications ( it reduces the number of popups after installing ) Refer below.

Also, if you want less popups & lower security, tick > Do not show any alerts for the applications certified by Comodo.

Is the XP SP2 firewall getting a raw deal?

Try Kerio Personal Firewall. It will run as the full version for 30 days...if you opt not to buy it, it "downgrades" itself to the free version.

What quirks are you talking about in Zone Alarm Pro?.
I have used it for years, and never had a problem. I recently upgraded one of my laptops to the complete ZA Security Suite, instead of my normal configuration of Zone Alarm along with Norton Security Suite for AV. I did this on that particular computer because the person using it is totally computer illiterate and needs the best possible security w/o hassles. So far so good in fact that I am coinf that route on all of my computers when my Norton expires which I have used for years as well.
