ok, so up until recently, I have not had any issues with firefox or thunderbird. About a week ago, firefox wouldn't load it's normal way. It gave me a prompt to create a new profile for firefox. I created one, then tried to upload my old bookmarks onto it, but they were nowhere to be found. I built up my usual bookmarks (mostly we-based email sites) again. Yesterday, halfway through the day (i had already been using firefox that day, it was normal as far as I could tell) it did notprompt me to create a new profile, BUT all of my bookmarks were once again gone. I have run every type of freeware/shareware anti-virus, firewall, and anti-spyware software that i could find, and nothing popped up. Generally I use zonealarm, norton, and adaware se. Any one got any ideas on what this is? im thinking it a worm/bug of some kind, but i'm not sure.

As for thunderbird, I just tried to open it, had already configured my different accounts to load onto it and everything. when i attempted to open it, it wanted me to set up a new account, and didnt have any record of the ones i had already set up!!! Has this happened to anyone else?! What did you do to fix it?

HELP!

patience, have to agree with your thinking. Sounds like the nefarious work of a nasty to me. My first thought is restore. Can you simply return to a more favorable time?
Also, what about a trojan? Be aware that a virus and a trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, a virus scanner can detect one it can't clean , other times, it gets missed entirely. There’s an online trojan scanner @:

If it turns out that you have one and need to clean, A² can do the job and you can get it free @:

among other places. If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update prior to running.

i Think that you had one instance of Firfox running at the time..and thats why ff ask you to create a new profile.

Close all Firefox thats running using the Taskmanager.

Have a look in your profile folder for all your default settings and bak them up !(usually in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxx.default.
